Croc it Like it’s Hot

It’s probably the most obvious trend out there as of late, and I still have yet to hop on board. Animal print is everywhere and it’s obviously not going away any time soon. I have yet to buy one leopard sweater and just can’t pull the trigger on snakeskin boots for some reason, but I finally found my animal print you guys. Crocodile embossed leather is where it is at this fall!

Black Work Tote – $128 Black Boots – $70

It’s one of my favorite trends ever as it holds a special place in my heart. My grandmother, who was one of the greatest style icons in my life, always had several croc textured bag in her closet and was always trying to convince me to carry one as well.

I’m so into this trend and can’t wait to fill my closet with it and my heart with memories of my grandma. ❤️

I’ve rounded up my favorite textured pieces, all under $200 (and most under $60!!!) for you guys here. Each piece is linked below the collage in blue. Happy shopping!

MY color of the season

The fall fashion week previews told us all about how purple is the new millennial pink, and were filled with pistachio of all colors. Sorry but, I for one, am not on board with dressing like an Easter egg this fall. My favorite part about fashion has always been having the ability to express myself, as simple or trendy as I please. This fall, I’ve decided to pick my own color of the season, and I’ve already found about 50 pieces in it that I’m dying to have. As the stores begin filling with warmer weather clothing, the one thing that keeps catching my eye, everywhere I turn, is the color rust.

Cardigan – $135 Jeans – $78 Sneakers – $95

The orangey-brown hue is on a shelf in every store this season and I can’t wait to get my hands on it and blend in with the autum trees. I’ve picked out some of my favorite pieces so far in rust-like colors to help you start building your fall wardrobe with my new favorite tone of the season, too!

The Top Trends You’ll be Falling for This Season and Those You Should Avoid

Fall fashion is hitting the shelves and will shortly be filling our closets. I for one am SO on board for some of the big trends we are about to start seeing everywhere and can’t wait to share so you all can be ahead of the game! Relaxed suits, all leather looks, romantic detailing, and high necklines graces the runways back in the spring, while brands showed off the looks for the upcoming season, and honestly, I’m here for all those trends (come on, warmth is where it’s at living in NYC.) Monochrome is having a moment and simplicity is making a much needed comeback (right up my alley!!!)

Blazer / Dad Jeans / White Tee / Sneakers

Everything is getting belted this season (think lots of utility jumpsuits and dresses). The first trend I’m hopping on board with this season is belted blazers. Blazers have obviously been having a moment, but this season, they’re getting some flare. Blazers with built in belts, leather belts over plaid blazers, and chains over solid colored jackets are going to be everywhere come October.

Toss aside all that dainty jewelry you’ve been wearing for the past couple years, because chunky jewelry is making a major appearance this fall. Thick gold chain necklaces and bracelets with bigger, wider earrings will be on every wrist, neck, and earlobe.

Along the lines of the relaxed suits, trousers are the new jeans. I am SO here for this cause like, come on, who doesn’t love total comfort at all times, all while being trendy?!

Knee high boots were on every it girl at NYFW. I’m not talking about your typical-blogger skin-tight suede boots, I mean to the knee, slouchy, and lots leather over here. A big trend is to tuck those flows trousers into your knee high boots as well.

Trends I’m Not Backing:

While the all leather looks were stunning on the runway, I can easily promise I will not be purchasing any knee length leather shorts. Just not for me. Leather jackets galore and maybe some leather skirts are all I’m good for on this trend.

Capes are for superheroes-or the two year that I nanny, when she wants to run “super fast”. I just don’t feel like a normal or attractive human with a cape draped over my shoulders and certainly don’t like the look of these vest-type jacket capes.

Quilting and patchwork also were all over the runway last fashion week. Sorry not sorry, but looking like I belong on grandma’s couch just isn’t my taste or style. I’m sure quilted everything is nice and warm, but I can find warmth in style, not just practicality.

Black Midi Dress 3 Ways

I love a good little black dress, so I thought Id hop on board with the midi dress trend this spring and get one in black to try it out. I am so glad I did! This satin pleated dress is beyond comfortable and incredibly versatile. Best part is it’s only $40, and everything else linked in this post in under $60!!!!!

As pictured above, it can be worn on a typical day out with white sneaks and some fun sunglasses for a casual look!

It also looks great for a slightly nicer causal outfit, with some platform sandals and a hat! Super trendy and still so comfy. (Sandals are 20% off with code THRIVING!)

The look can be transformed into night with some exciting heels (these Valentino dupes are to die for, an insane fraction of the price as is, and also 20% off with code THRIVING) and a cute clutch!

Friday Spruced up Basics

A fun mix of higher end and bargain pieces, this black and white look is great for running out and about all day into night. My top is around $50, and this tank is literally THREE BUCKS!!!! Crazy right?! My favorite comfy staple black jeans are over $100, but beyond worth it. And you all know I wear these shoes 24/7.

Little Black Jumpsuit

Every girl knows they need a little black dress, but do you know you also need a little black jumpsuit? I got this jumpsuit almost 2 years ago and it has come back in stock every single season since then. It’s such a staple wardrobe item and I have worn it time and time again. Last night for a date look while out seeing a show, I paired it with black pointed toe booties and a white wool coat to help dress it up and keep me warm. I have also worn it with a sweater over top to dress it down, alone with heels in the warmer months, and have paired it with bold statement pieces, as it’s the perfect black canvas.

This jumpsuit has a perfect plunge, flattering wide legs, and can be worn without a bra to show off the adorable criss-cross back. Express – $88

This next option is a straight legged jumpsuit, pulled together with an adorable bow. The neckline is more of a V than the above look, and the price point is better too. (Also comes in tall and petite!!!!) ASOS – $54

This one is IDENTICAL to my Express jumpsuit, same back and all! A steal at $36 less! Pink Lily – $52

This jumpsuit is DEFINITELY on my wish list. The quality is amazing, The straps across the shoulders are thinner, and this bow tied in the back is sweet and dainty. The priciest of all, but worth the splurge as it will for sure get it’s money’s worth. Revolve – $218

This jumpsuit is different than the previous looks as the material is more silky and shiny. The giant bow detail around the waist band is super elegant for more formal occasions. H&M – $70

The last look is this classy piece that is on sale 40% off! With a different take on the back, it almost has a T shape across the shoulder blades, with a deeper V in front, while still having a tie around the waist. Nordstrom– $90 *on sale from $150*

5 Ways to Style: A Basic Black V Neck

Continuing along with this series, I am so excited to share an every day basic that every girl needs and 5 ways to style it. A simple black v neck, long or short sleeved, is a perfect staple piece to help you transition seasons. Today I am styling 5 ways to wear one as we SLOWLY change to spring and hopefully some warmer temps.

Black is my all time fave color to wear, not only because it’s the perfect neutral, but because it is so flattering on everyone. The first look I’m sharing is a basic everyday style. Throw on a pair of distressed light boyfriend jeans, a wide brim hat, and some matching sneaks, and you have a super easy, put-together look!

Second, I styled my top with a black denim skirt, and some fun gold accent pieces to create a fun easy going night out look. This would go great with black heeled booties.

The next look is a great spring outfit, created by adding the white pants! Throw a denim shirt around your way for some contrast and some sneakers to create this running-errands-while-still-put-together look.

Fourth, I created a similar look, but I threw on a neutral colored cardigan to add some more warmth. This look would pair great with preferated or open toed booties.

Lastly, I created a going out look for nights when it is still a bit chilly. Adding some black button front jeans and a fuzzy teddy coat really dresses up the T-shirt. Some fun heels and jewelry help to throw this look together!

Hope you enjoyed this continuation of my series and got some fresh ideas for restyling an everyday piece! Shop every piece I styled here through the blue linked words above or in the list below.

Back to Basics

This is my forever-go-to basic look, that works for every occasion. A simple black v neck top and some stretchy jeans with a black and gold belt, and gold accent jewelry to dress things up a bit. The added hat makes you look like you have a little edge, and can even cover up a bad hair!

Jeans / Top / Hat

Spring Stripes

Loving this new sweater that is surprisingly light and SO soft! Making me crave warmer months so bad, but it’s still the perfect piece to layer up and wear right now. An amazing transition piece, this sweater can be worn under a cute cardigan, on it’s own with shorts, or over a bikini! So versatile!

Black Boots

Ladies, I have done endless searching for the perfect pair of quality, but not overly expensive black boots. Everything I tried was either a suede that easily faded, super uncomfortable, or over $200 (no thank you!!!). BUT, this is what I’d like to call the ultimate pair of boots. I love DSW and have for a long time because, as a girl with giant feet, I have such appreciation for a store that not only carries my size, but adds bright colored stickers to boxes that have my size inside. Shoe shopping use to be my least favorite thing on earth and made me feel so silly and abnormal, but THANK YOU DSW for breaking through that need-to-be-tiny stigma.

I love the quality of the leather on these, plus the little piece of stretch on the side that adds so much comfort. The block heel is great for walking or long periods of wear. My favorite part though has got to be the subtle silver touch at the toe, adding a hit of western edge and a little attitude. So fun!!

These babies are a great deal for such quality shoes, at $99. Right now you can use code REDHOT for 20% PLUS and additional 10% off with code HOTBOOTS. Talk. About. A. Steal.
